Microneedling can be used on any part of the body. The most common area to be treated is the face for acne scars or to treat fine lines and wrinkles. The Microneedling is also used to treat lines and wrinkles on the neck, décolletage and the backs of hands.
The treatment is relatively pain free and the anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand to reduce any discomfort that may be caused.
The Microneedling treatment takes 20-30 minutes depending on the area that is being treated. The face usually takes about 20 minutes. The neck takes approximately a further ten minutes. Microneedling for the hand and décolletage take 10 to 15 minutes for each area.
We recommend a course of four treatments approximately 6 weeks apart to achieve the best results.
Side effects of Microneedling are minimal. The acne scarring, or area being treated, may look red, similar to moderate sunburn. This will settle within a few hours and the skin will look normal by the next day. In a very small percentage of people it can take 48 hours for the redness to fully settle. During this period camouflage or foundation can be used.
After your Microneedling treatment your practitioner will put on a barrier repair cream to encourage the repair of the skin. A sunscreen is also recommended to wear between treatments. This helps protect the skin and provide optimum conditions for the skin to repair itself.
It can take up to six weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.
In the treatment of acne scars and other types of scarring it may be necessary for your practitioner to extend your Dermaroller procedure, carrying out up to five procedures.
Microneedling for fine lines and wrinkles will improve the skin; however it will not stop the natural ageing process or new lines forming.
